Translating
I translate from German to English and French to English, using American or British spelling.
I have focused on international relations, development policy and human rights, the environment, sociology, ethnology and conflict resolution, and am particularly interested in the Middle East and Muslim societies, Africa, Europe and the Americas.
I translate all kinds of film material (exposés, scripts, subtitles) and journalism, as well as art catalogues, websites, literature and philosophy.
A word-for-word translation cannot render a text's meaning and style! My extensive copy-editing experience helps me to produce accurate and elegant work.
Confidentiality and punctuality are my bywords.
In this era of strapped budgets, I offer post-editing, which my experience shows can save around one quarter of the time needed to translate.
I also receive frequent requests to do community interpreting (for health and social services) and consecutive interpreting for meetings and events.
For me, translating is far from being just a job. I believe we need to hear read non-Anglophones – to understand their concerns and to feel their joys and sorrows. To that end, I searched for a US or UK publisher for my translation of Distel im Weinberg (Thistles in the Vineyard) by Palestinian botanist, activist and author Sumaya Farhat-Naser.
